Sara’s visit and the latest truck disaster

My sister Sara came to visit us in the middle of the biggest snowstorm we’ve had since we’ve lived here. Because there was a snowstorm forecast and he has a car that is utterly and completely worthless in the snow, Ken took the truck to work. On his way home from work in the snowstorm the truck quit working. Sara was due to arrive in about 2 hours, and we were supposed to drive up to Taos to ski the next day. Ken ended up waiting for a tow truck for 3 hours, then finally giving up, and I managed to make it to the airport and back to pick up Sara, but we did not go to Taos. Instead we spent the majority of the next day waiting for a tow truck again. At least there was snow to make snowmen whilst we waited.

The tow truck driver had his work cut out for him trying to get the truck off of the towtruck in our steep, snowy driveway.

After wasting approximately 24 hours dealing with the stupid truck (and it’s several weeks later now and the truck is STILL not running), we finally found some time to do something fun. Poor Sara.

Sara and I did manage to make it to Taos to ski, and it turned out that avalanche danger had been so high during the weekend that only one lift was open and there were hour long lift lines. So I guess the truck breaking was all part of us being providentially hindered from standing in hour long lift lines. God works in mysterious ways. When we went, on Monday, they eventually opened up all the lifts except the new one.

The rest of her visit was lovely, as usual. We went biking, cross country skiing, did lots of eating, did some walking, some shopping, and overall had a grand time. We hope she comes back to visit us even if we still own the truck in the future.
